Tv's Smallville has it killed superman and has totally messed up the superman storyline??

i have beed set against smallville since the begining, it never made sense or held any appeal to me, it is such an alternative telling of the superman story that it should not be considered anything to do with the superman strip in any way...its as if it was just inspired by it.
