If God is perfect why is the world so imperfect?

God supposedly created EVERYTHING right (including satan)? He's all powerful right? Then why is there so much imperfection in the world? He'd have to have messed up at some point right? Which would have meant he lied about being perfect. I'd love to hear your opinions, since I'm trying to decide whether to be atheist or give God another shot.
